Meeting with the EFTA

The Managing Director of the AFA, David Cerqueda, participated in the breakfast meeting organised with the Secretary General of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), Henri Gétaz, and with several economic and social actors involved in or following the negotiation of the Association Agreement between Andorra and the European Union (EU). The objectives of this meeting were to bring together the EFTA experience and to learn first-hand about the challenges and opportunities of having an association agreement with the EU.

The Secretary General of EFTA explained his experience in managing the European Economic Area Agreement, an association agreement with the EU allowing three of the four EFTA states (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) to participate in the single market as well as the challenges that the different countries have had to face in terms of incorporating the acquis Communautaire and the opportunities and difficulties that have arisen in the last 30 years of taking advantage of this agreement.

The Secretary General of EFTA highlighted that the result of the European Economic Area Agreement has been "extremely positive" for the countries that are part of it and encouraged Andorra to continue negotiating the agreement.
